This is the first of a series (it may be a trilogy with several smaller novels called 0.5, 1.5, etc.) between. For me, I dislike focusing on that aspect of humanity however realistic it might be. It focused to heavily on the impact on Earth, with a cynical undertone about human’s ‘ability’ to change most things into a war of some kind. However, it didn’t quite capture the intrigue of alien existence for me. It felt well researched, particularly the scientific characters jargon, and the political realms. I enjoyed the trajectory of the story and the scrutinisation of humankind, especially when looked at from an alien perspective. I found the form interesting and the characters well-developed and thought-out, although very few of them truly likable. This novel is based around interviews with various characters working on a project to discover more about this gigantic robot, possibly left on Earth by aliens. Then, my sister and uncle were both bought it for Christmas and I knew I could easily pinch (I mean, borrow, borrooooow) one of these, so I duly did so. I was intrigued particularly as it referenced The Martian, a film I had absolutely loved. This book popped up on me Goodreads feed last year as a suggested read for me.
